The "SOS Education - Student Scolarship
Program" intends to offer to the selected, highly qualified
American, Romanian and Indian students scholarships, both in Romania/India
and in the US.
The scholarships in Romania/India will offer
to the mentioned above students academic counseling and financial
help to attend high-qualified educational programs in Romanian/Indian
schools, universities or Center of Excellence for Education and
Research.
The scholarships in the US will support
students participation in exchange programs, giving to the Romanian/Indian
students an opportunity to experience a period of actual study and
live in the USA. The participating students will have a chance to
be exposed to the English language, to a different scholar system.
The program will build confidence in their abilities to adjust to
the new environment and to perform well. They will carry back home
the new developed skills and knowledge enriching their native scholar
environment. The participating American and Romanian/Indian students
will present part of the culture they are coming from through posters
with pictures from the US and from Romania/India, presentations
about famous people from the US and from Romania/India, and through
music, dance, and poetry.
The scholarship will pay the tuition for
a full scholar year or for summer courses, for science, art, and
other educational summer camps. The courses and camps can be organized
by Romanian, Indian or American governmental institution, by international
public organization, by other private organization or by the SOS
Education itself. For all these programs the SOS Education organizer
body will be voluntary and it must have the full support of the
governments, universities and companies involved.
Clear criteria for student selection need to be established, based
on academic records, ability to speak English and stage of their
studies (before graduation). In the same fashion, clear criteria
need to be established for the selection of hosting families: financially
and socially stable, based on peer recommendation. The SOS Education
Board of Directors will determine the eligibility rules and procedures
for the exchanges. For all the planed activities Board of Directors
will take all the necessary steps to obtain from the American Embassy
in Bucharest/Delhi the legal visa status for studying/working in
the US.
The internship and scholarship programs
are intended to start in the summer of 2001. They are subject to
the existence of the necessary funds and support.
